[Tokyo Revengers] Why does Naoto remember the memory of past world? Is it because of the trigger of time-leap?

First of all, let’s take a closer to the reason why Naoto’s memory remains before and after Takemichi’s time leap.

When Takemichi time leaps and changes the history of the past, the situation in the future  naturally changes as well.

In that case, Takemichi, who has timed his journey in the past, can see the difference between the world before and after the change, but for the rest of others, they do not recognize that the world has changed.

Therefore, it seems that Takemichi is the only one who can remember what happened before the world changed.

However, in the story, there is a description of Naoto’s memory remaining, and the reason for this is probably because Naoto is the trigger.

The only difference between Naoto and the others is that point, and Naoto said to Takemichi “My memory was overwritten the moment you came back”.

Like time leapers, trigger people also seem to be special people in time leaps.

[Tokyo Revengers] List of scenes that show that Naoto remember everything.

Let’s take a look in order at the scenes where we can see that Naoto actually retains his memories in the story.

Since Takemichi has altered the world many times in the series, it is likely that he will become confused during the process when the world and his memories change so much.

The first time leap (vol 1, chapter 1)

The first scene where we see that Naoto’s memory remains is in the 1st chapter of the first volume of the manga, when Takemichi is almost run over by a train, and he makes a time leap back to the future.

Originally, Naoto would have died along with Hinata, but Takemichi told Naoto what would happen on July 1st, 2017 when he timed it back 12 years ago, and the world changed to the future where Naoto survived.

Even though he was into occult, Naoto always remembered Takemichi’s words from 12 years ago, and he believed in the ridiculous story all the time, in a way, his trust with Takemichi is amazing.

In chapter 7 of volume 2 of the manga, Naoto was researching the members of the Tokyo Manji gang and found the name of Atsushi Sendo, also known as Akkun, as one of the executives of the Tokyo Manji gang.

In the past, Atsushi Sendo was arrested for stabbing Kiyomasa, and was supposed to have become a thug after being released from prison.

But 12 years ago, Atsushi Sendo never stabbed Kiyomasa because Takemichi persisted against him in the underground fighting.

This changed the world, and Naoto, who still has his memories from before the change, realized that the world had changed here.

After “Bloody Halloween“, Takemichi returns to the future, where he is one of the top executives of Tokyo Manji gang.

In this world, Takemichi was almost killed by Tetta Kisaki, but was rescued in the nick of time by Kazutora.

After that, however, Takemichi was arrested by Naoto and taken to the interrogation room.

In this world, Takemichi was suspected of murder because he had unknowingly given the order to kill Hinata through the machinations of Tetta Kisaki.

In chapter 76 of volume 9 of the manga, Naoto explained the current world to Takemichi in the interrogation room, and he says

The moment you came back to the present age, my world changed in an instant.

He says.

Naoto is so talented that he adapts perfectly to the world changing at such a fast pace.

When Takemichi returned to the future after the battle of Christmas, he found that Takashi Mitsuya was dead and Hinata was also dead.

Then, in the 115th chapter of the 13th volume of the manga, Takemichi went back to his house to sort out the situation, and Naoto appeared and says

My memory has been overwritten.
That means you’ve come back.

After telling him this, Naoto told him about the current state of the world.

  • The members of Tokyo Manji gang have all been killed.
  • Even Kisaki was killed.
  • Mikey is on the wanted list.

I don’t know what it feels like to have your memories overwritten, but at least Naoto still had his memories from before the world changed, so he was experiencing the strange sensation of having his memories rewritten.

The world where everyone is still alive. (Vol. 22, chapter 194)

After the “Kanto Incident“, Takemichi returned to the future, where Perchin’s wedding was being held.

The Tokyo Manji gang members are still alive, Hinata is still alive, and Naoto, who was once killed by Tetta Kisaki, is still alive.

In the manga volume 22, chapter 194, Takemichi cried and was happy to see Naoto again, and Naoto said

Takemichi!
You have completed the mission!

Considering that Hinata and Naoto themselves have seen the world change many times since their deaths, and that Naoto’s memories have changed each time, Naoto’s mental state is surprising.

Conclusion of “[Tokyo Revengers] Why does Naoto remember the past world? About the mystery of the trigger!”

In this article, I explained why Naoto Tachibana of Tokyo Revengers retains his memory in the story.

In the world of Tokyo Revengers, Takemichi and Naoto are the only ones who have memories of the time before and after the change.

And Naoto, in particular, probably couldn’t talk to anyone about this in the future, so I think he was troubled all the time until Takemichi came back.

I’m glad the world turned out the way Naoto wanted it to in the end.
